Mulled cider

This is the season for warm, spiced drinks by the fire. We made this using some home brewed cider, just remember to save some cider for a wassail in January.


  • 2 bottles dry cider
  • 3 heaped tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 6 allspice berries
  • 3 large cap fulls of brandy or sloe gin


Stick all the ingredients into a large pan and heat gently for 5-10 minutes until warm through. Do not boil.

Strain through a muslin cloth or tea-towel and serve immediately.
