Lembas bread

The mythical bread of the elves in lord of the rings. Said to keep a man on his feet for a whole day.

Whilst it is unknown what is actually in lembas, there are many recipes around. This version is not unlike shortbread and tastes great with blackberry whiskey jam.

  • 100g butter
  • 50g honey
  • 1 egg
  • 200g white bread flour
  • 50g linseed

Blend together the butter, honey and egg.

Mix in the flour and linseed to form a stiff dough.

Tip out onto a lightly floured work surface, and need together for several minutes.

Roll out the dough to about 1cm thick, cut into squares, and score each one diagonally.

Cook in the centre of a pre-heated oven at 180 degrees for about 20 minutes, until golden in colour.
