Crispy and delicous. Its easy to make your own pizzas from scratch. With a little early prep to make the dough. You can always make it the day before you need it and refridgerate, or freeze it for longer term storage.
Makes 4 pizzas
For the base;
- 500g white bread flour
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of bread yeast
- 300ml warm water (approx)
For the sauce;
- 1 tin of tomatoes
- Small bunch of basil (finely chopped)
- 2 cloves of garlic (peeled and finely chopped)
- 1 small onion (peeled and finely chopped)
You’ll also need:
- Your favourite toppings
For the bases;
Put the flour, salt & sugar into a large bowl and mix together.
Add the yeast and slowly add a little water at a time, while mixing together with your hands, until everything sticks together to form a firm dough
It needs to be workable, so as not to stick to your hands too much, but too dry and it will fall apart. You can add more or less water depending on how your dough feels.
Tip out onto your worktop and knead for around 5-10 minutes.
There are various ways to knead your dough I like to stretch it out, then roll it back in and give it a 90 degree turn, before stretching it out again.
Coat in a little flour and place the dough into a bowl. Cover loosely with a damp cloth. Leave for about an hour, or until the dough has roughly doubled in size.
Lightly flour your worktop, divide the dough into 4 pieces and roll into balls.
Roll out each ball thinly, around 0.5-1cm is ideal.
For the sauce;
Stick all the ingredients into a pan on a medium heat. Mash the tomatoes and cook for around 15-20 minutes until thick.
Spread thinly over the bases and top with your favourite toppings.
Cook at 220 degrees for around 10 minutes until crisp and golden
