Apple spiced vodka

Crab apples are available in large quantities from late Summer. This drink is perfect for warming yourself, sat by the fire during the long, cold winter months.

  • 350g apples (any sort will do, but crab apples are best)
  • 175g granulated Sugar
  • 700ml vodka
  • 5 star anise
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 12 cloves


Wash your apples and pick out any leaves or twigs. Slice them into quarters.

Put the apples and spices into a kilner jar or demijohn and cover with the sugar. Pour over the vodka and put the lid on.

Shake the jar to mix in the sugar. Shake once a day, for a few days, until the sugar remains dissolved.

After 1 month decant into bottles through a funnel lined with a muslin cloth.

Can be drunk immediately.
